No Console Plans for World of Warcraft – Blizzard

Sharudin Rahmat asked:

An discussion with Itzik Ben Bassat, Blizzard Entertainment’s vice president of business development and international, earlier this year established that World of Warcraft won’t be coming to the PSP or the Xbox 360 anytime soon. Bassat elaborated that, “when we come to consider the new game we’re developing, we’d have to take that into consideration and ask ourselves if we want to develop the games for consoles and PC or keep it PC only. Online PC gaming is still in its very early stages, and it needs to be developed further to provide opportunities of a scale which will be interesting to us.”

Gossip flourished back in 2005 when WoW’s population was blowing minds at just one half of its present levels, that a console version of Blizzard’s massively multiplayer online game was all but inevitable. The prospect of a Blizzard-produced console game was seemingly once and for all dispelled with the mysterious declaration that all console development had stopped and those working on console projects had been “redeployed.”

Blizzard went on the record following the recent merger of their parent company, Vivendi Games, with Activision, to note that it will not be changing its focus to include console titles. Mike Morhaime, president of Blizzard, said in a conference call on Monday, “we currently don’t have any plans right now on the console side.” He went on to explain that the company might think about console development in the future if it “made sense.”

If the merger is approved, the new unit is expected to leapfrog over Electronic Arts to become the leading independent third-party publisher on the planet, with estimated joint revenues in excess of $3.8 billion. That sizeable sum is dwarfed by the estimated combined value of Activision Blizzard’s assets – a colossal $18.9 billion. The union makes perfect sense, although it’s unexpected.

So you can stop harassing Blizzard about a console version of WoW, the poor guys must be sick of it by now. A Blizzard rep has posted this response to what has to be about the millionth time someone has asked them this:

We’re madly in love with the PC and Mac platforms, and there are no plans at this time to bring World of Warcraft to any other platform.

Based on that announcement, it looks like we’re going to have to continue our normal arrangement of playing the game on our home computers. This is gloomy news for those who had been planning on playing the game from their sofas. If you’re really set on playing WoW in your living room, you could always hook up your PC there. It might not be the easiest thing to do, but at least you’ll be on the sofa.

WoW has always been a bestseller – in an industry where selling 1 million copies of a title is a rare feat, Blizzard shipped 4.5 million copies of Warcraft III to retailers for its launch date of July 3, 2002, each with a retail price of $59.99 or $74.99 (for the collectors’ edition). Diablo II, another effort by the same company, once held the world record for the quickest game to sell 1 million copies.

Susanne W asked:

My daughter (20) has an addiction to the online game called, “World of Warcraft”. She rarely leaves her room, has no friends, no motivation to go to school or work, and is depressed. I realize that the game is not the core problem, but I am unable to think of a solution to get her to live any kind of life. Is there a support group anyone can recommend that I contact. I need to talk to others and see what they have done to help with this problem.

How to Start World of Warcraft Clans

Muna wa Wanjiru asked:

To play World of Warcraft takes skill and patience. But as you go up the level ladder, you will find that it also sometimes takes more people than just you or your one or two friends to complete a quest. This is where the World of Warcraft clans come into play.

World of Warcraft clans, or guilds as they are also known, are groups of people who get together for some reason or other, mostly because you do have certain advantages in having a large number of people by your side if ever you need them.

There’s also the little fact that if you’re part of one of the World of Warcraft clans you always have the ability to ask your guildmates any questions about the game to help you through it.

To become part of any of the World of Warcraft clans you have two options available to you. You can either, form a guild of your own, or you can ask to join an already existing guild.

If it’s the former you will find that there are a few things that you will need to do before you can form your own guild. These are listed below.

To form World of Warcraft clans you will need to first find an NPC (Non-Playable Character) Guildmaster who can give you a guild charter. You will then need to add a minimum of 10 players to this charter, including yourself, and then return the charter to the same Guildmaster you received it from.

After you complete this process to creating your very first of World of Warcraft clans, you can then go about the business of finding a suitable name for your clan. You might find that you need to go through quite a few before you will be able to find one that you like.

With over 8 million players worldwide most of the names you think of for your guild are probably already in use! Your World of Warcraft clans name also needs to be something that is not offensive otherwise it can be renamed and/ or your clan disbanded.

After going through all of that you can then go about the business of creating a clan tabard. This can only be done by approaching a guild creation NPC who can help you to purchase and create your tabard.

You will then need to put down a further 10 gold pieces in order to unlock the tabard. With World of Warcraft clans you also have the option of using private chat channels to be able to speak with your guild members privately.

To join World of Warcraft clans which are already formed you will need to receive an invitation, or you can put in a request to join that clan. And if you find that you don’t like that particular guild you can always leave it and look for another one to join.

How to Win in the World of Warcraft Shade of Aran Karazhan Instance Fight

Aaron Patterson asked:

The Shade of Aran is a boss fight in the Karazhan instance. Here is how to fight it and win.

The shade has no threat table, so no tank is needed for this fight. He has five major spells and three minor spells. All of his minor spells can be interrupted; it is his major spells you will need to be aware of. Here are the major spells and how to get out of them.

Blizzard, this is an AoE that he casts on the edge of the room. To get out of this run through the AoE then run to the middle out of range of it until it goes away.

Flame wreath is a five second cast. Once this is cast, no one can move. It targets three random people in the raid and puts a ring of fire around them. If anyone is near them and moves it will do a 3-4k damage spell that hits everyone in the room and will last for 15 seconds.

His worst spell is his massive Magnetic Pull and Arcane Explosion. This combo pulls everyone to him, slowing them, and casting a 10 second cast of Arcane Explosion. Everyone in the raid must run out of range from or it does 9k-11k damage to everyone it hits. The room you’re standing in is 22.5 yards from the middle to the edge and the spell radius is 20 yards, so it is important that every one runs as soon as he pulls you to the center or you will die.

The next spell he does summons water elementals. He will summon four elite elementals when he reaches 40% health. These can be banished and feared or tanked but do not need to be killed. They last for 90 seconds and then disappear. If they are not tanked, feared, or banished they will target your healers first due to healing aggro.

The shades last major spell is Enrage. Players will know that it is coming when he emotes, “Give an old man some time for a refreshing drink.” He then will polymorph everyone into sheep and sit to drink a manna pot. Once he is done, he will Pyro Blast the whole raid for 7k-9k damage, but the raid should still be at full health because of the polymorph. He will then go into a stage were his manna reaches 20%.

Download the Free 10 Day World of Warcraft Demo Version to your Computer

Muna wa Wanjiru asked:

There’s simply nothing quite like it on this world, and even though it has its dissenters, World of Warcraft the MMORPG is one of the best of its kind. For those of you who are unwilling to take this on the faith of a whopping 8 million users, you have a chance at experiencing this firsthand in the form of the World of Warcraft demo.

This “try before you buy” World of Warcraft demo policy of Blizzard’s is good in that they give potential users the ability to sink their teeth into the World of Warcraft with no risk on their sides. If they don’t like the game they can walk away without having to worry that they had to pay to create an account.

The World of Warcraft demo is also good in that resources of Warcraft are yours to use as you will for the ten days, no holds barred. This will allow you to experience Warcraft to its fullest and give you a taste for playing the game, which you might otherwise be hesitant to do if you need to first of all fork out some money.

The only limit that the World of Warcraft demo imposes is the ten day limit. Other than that you would go through the normal steps of creating an account, creating your character, and then playing.

Well, there is one other limit imposed by the World of Warcraft demo, and that is that you are only limited to creating one character, whereas with the full version, you have the option of creating up to a maximum of 50 characters, with 10 characters per server.

To start your free World of Warcraft demo you will first need to go to the World of Warcraft website and follow the links to help you create your World of Warcraft demo account.

There are a few steps to creating your free World of Warcraft demo account and these are, reading and accepting the World of Warcraft Terms of Use agreement, going through the visual verification security check, and entering your legitimate contact information.

To proceed with the World of Warcraft demo you will also need to complete two more steps of creating your account which are, account creation, and account verification.

After you have gone through with these steps you can then download the free 10 day World of Warcraft demo version to your computer. You will have the choice here of whether you want to get the PC download or the Mac download.

And when you have finally finished with this last step you can then sit back and start enjoying your free World of Warcraft demo. At which point, when the trial period runs out you will in all probability find yourself rushing out to get the real game so that you can play to your heart’s content.

So How Could There be a Bad World of Warcraft Review?

Monday, April 7th, 2008
warcraft
Muna wa Wanjiru asked:

There have been bad reviews in the archives of history but to date no World of Warcraft review has been a bad review. Well, alright that was a slight exaggeration.

As with anything World of Warcraft and the entire Warcraft empire does have its fair share of critics, but for the most part these are few and far between when you take on the entire legion of World of Warcraft players who believe the sun rises and sets in the world of video games with World of Warcraft.

This highly popular online game, reached a milestone of eight million players worldwide on January 11th, 2007. Not all of these people could be wrong could they, about the quality of the World of Warcraft game? Blizzard rightly took this as a sign of a good World of Warcraft review, given by none other than their loyal player base.

So how could there be a bad World of Warcraft review? Very easily in fact. Players of other major MMORPG’s will naturally enough prefer their own game to that of the World of Warcraft, and this holds doubly true if the game they play doesn’t need an account fee.

In fact this seems to be one of the worst World of Warcraft review problems, the need to pay for the privilege of playing World of Warcraft. Most of the numerous World of Warcraft review pages that you will come across though, will all lean towards praising World of Warcraft for its great game playing as well its accessibility and ease of play.

The good World of Warcraft review pages go on and on, and you will also find mention of such things as over a thousand quests available for game play with more still to come, a number of lands to explore, and a variety of races and classes to choose from to create your character.

Also another reason for a good World of Warcraft review lies in the fact that Blizzard learnt its lesson from other MMORPG’s and created instanced portions of the game so that players wouldn’t have to fight over the limited number of item drops, and the limited number of truly bad monsters to fight.

Having an instanced portion of the game to play in, meant that players could play without interrupting other players who were playing in the same portion of the game as they were. These were all factors leading to many a good World of Warcraft review from the time that it was released in November of 2004.

However, you don’t need to rely on a third party World of Warcraft review. With the advent of blogging and forums you can now give your own honest World of Warcraft review for other people to see.
